Three people were killed and 19 others are missing after a mudslide hit a village in Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong, southwest China's Yunnan Province, on Monday morning.
The mudslide occurred at around 6 a.m. in Huna Village, where 13 houses were crushed and dozens of others damaged.
Zhang Guojun, a rescuer working at the site, told Xinhua the mudslide cleaved out its way through the middle of the village. It also blocked road traffic and caused power disruption.
Zhang said no mechanical equipment has been sent to aid those searching for survivors. Rescuers are using only shovels and their bare hands to dig through debris.
Continuing downpours have also caused several landslides, blocking the road linking the village to the nearest township of Manghai. More than 500 rescuers trying to reach Huna are stranded in Manghai.
