2 suspects in Moscow metro crash charged with violating safety rules

Two suspects in the Moscow metro accident that claimed 23 lives and left more than 150 injured were charged with violating safety regulations, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee said on Friday.
“The Investigative Committee charged chief track supervisor of the Moscow metro company Valery Bashkatov and his assistant Yuri Gordov with transport safety violations,” Vladimir Markin said.
The investigators claim that Bashkatov and Gordov neglected their duties in supervising the installation of a track switch in the tunnel between the two metro stations - Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Boulevard - which brought about the train derailment.
In the coming days, two other suspects are to be charged.
All of the four suspects are under arrest.
Markin said that technical, chemical, forensic and other analyses were being carried out to determine the causes of the crash and narrow down the list of suspects, taking into consideration other evidence.
