
Two police commandos were killed while another was injured in a gunbattle with leftwing Naxalite rebels in the forests of Gadchiroli district in the central Indian state of Maharashtra on Sunday, said local media.
The fighting occurred late evening near village Tikameda of the rebel violence-affected district located on the border of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, said Press Trust of India.
The encounter happened when the joint security forces were out for an anti-rebel operations along the border area of the two states since morning.
Police said two rebels were also been killed in the gunbattle.
The Naxalite rebels are estimated to have 10,000 members and have been active in poor rural areas for decades, engaging government forces.
