At least two Indian border guards of Border Security Force (BSF) were killed and four others wounded Saturday after militants attacked their vehicle in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
The attack was carried out near military airport in Koil village of Pulwama district, about 28 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Militants this afternoon attacked a BSF jeep in Koil village and killed two personnel and wounded four others," a BSF official said.
"The BSF vehicle carrying six BSF men was ambushed as it was returning to its stationed camp."
According to police, two BSF men were killed on spot, while as four others were immediately removed to military hospital in Srinagar.
Officials said the BSF camp at Koil is providing security to the airport.
Following the attack, contingents of military and police rushed to the area to carry out searches and nab the militants, reports said.
This is the second attack on BSF in the district over past six days. Militants on Monday night attacked their convoy in Pampore town wounding eight personnel including their officer.
On Wednesday, two Indian policemen and a civilian were killed after militants attacked a police gypsy in nearby Galender village.
Hizbul Mujahideen, the region's indigenous militant outfit claimed responsibility of the last two attacks.
Militants challenging New Delhi's rule are engaged in a guerrilla war with Indian troopers stationed in the restive region since 1989.
