At least one person was killed and several others injured as a result of fights that erupted due to disagreements over Sunday's Turkish presidential election, Todays Zaman reported.
In the southern province of Osmaniye, a 20-year-old man was shot dead by an unidentified individual after he cast his vote. He was rushed to a hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. Efforts were ongoing to capture the fleeing assailant.
Members of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), an offshoot of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), attacked three gendarmerie vehicles in Saray, a district of the eastern province of Van. The vehicles were carrying 15 gendarmes when the group blew up land mines by remote control. No casualties were reported due to the attack.
In Van, Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputy Gulsen Orhan was attacked, allegedly by supporters of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).
Arif Yıldız, the provincial chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in Malatya, was attacked by a group on Sunday afternoon. One of the MHP members was wounded when a group of unidentified people attacked Yıldız's vehicle with stones.
In Adana, six people were wounded when fighting erupted between two groups over presidential candidates. One of the injured is in critical condition.
Seven people were detained in sanlıurfa, a southeastern province of Turkey, due to a fistfight that erupted after a voter allegedly cast multiple votes.
A fistfight erupted between the voter and voting clerks, and seven people were eventually taken into custody by the police.
In Van's Muradiye district, a polling clerk was stabbed as he worked to cool down a group of HDP and AK Party supporters who were fighting for a reason that was not immediately known. The clerk is reportedly in good condition.
Some 2,500 women living in shelters across Turkey were not allowed to cast votes in the election. Government authorities said the women were not allowed to cast votes due to security concerns.
