Ahmed Soliman
Cairo - Arab Today

Former member of Egypt’s Zamalek board Ahmed Soliman blamed the increasing change in the goalkeeping position during the recent period for the negative results that hit the football team during the last matches. He added that the coaching staff turned to use Ahmed Al Shenawy for a number of matches then replacing him with Genesh in other matches, saying that such approach harmed the team.

He added, in a statement to “Arabs Today”, that the goalkeeping position is considered one of the most sensitive positions, saying that the increasing change in this position affects the performance of the players. He added that Genesh’s performance witnessed notable drop during the recent matches and was one of the major reasons of consecutive defeats that hit the team.

He added, “Zamalek suffers from a state of instability on the technical level, due to the change of coaches.” He stressed that the goalkeeping is the only position that should not be changed except in cases of extreme necessity.

He added that Ahly depended on only four goalkeepers during 30 years, while it suffered when it adopted the approach of depending on more than a goalkeeper during the recent years, praising the performance of Ahly’s goalkeeper Sherif Ekrami during this season. He called the coaching staff of Zamalek for depending on one goalkeeper and to focus on the coming matches of the CAF Champions League
