The United States Department of State announced today that the American authorities are not collaborating with Iran in their war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Deputy spokesperson for the US Department of State, Marie Harf, declared that the American authorities are not coordinating military or action or sharing intelligence with Iran in its effort to combat the advance of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
This development follows a report on Friday claiming that Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei instructed his senior general to cooperate with the US, Iraqi and Kurdish resistance against ISIS. Whilst denying US-Iranian collaboration. Harf stated that the US was open to “engaging Iranian” though did not elaborate on what that might mean.
She also added that this will not affect America’s diplomatic relations with Iran, which restarted in 2001 after the fall of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
