
U.S. Acting Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and the American negotiating team will meet Jan. 15-17 with Iranian officials in Geneva, the State Department announced on Thursday.
The bilateral consultations will take place in the context of the P5+1 (Permanent 5 members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) nuclear negotiations with Iran, led by European Union (EU) Special Adviser Catherine Ashton, the announcement said.
Deputy Secretary General for the EU's External Action Service Helga Schmid will join for part of the bilateral meetings, it said.
Following these meetings, Sherman will participate in a meeting of the P5+1 and the EU with Iran on Jan. 18 as part of the comprehensive nuclear negotiations, it said.
