South Korea's President Park Geun-hye called on North Korea to face the wave of changes in the international community and come to the path of reform and dialogue as soon as possible.
In a meeting with the Presidential Preparatory Committee for Unification on Monday, Park noted that Mongolia, Vietnam and Myanmar have been walking on the path of growth since they chose open-door policies while Cuba has restored diplomatic relations with the U.S, according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website.
Park said the ways of life and understanding between the two Koreas have diverged substantially as the duration of division has lengthened and asked members of the committee to strive to boost private sector exchanges.
She also said the committee must make a roadmap so that unification can be a bonanza for Korea as well as its neighboring countries and the world and to build consensus for the plan.
Park said forming a detailed plan to develop the North's infrastructure and resources after unification will resolve concerns about unification costs and will lead to domestic and foreign investments when the time is ready.
