New Mali leaders reveal constitution

The junta behind a military coup in Mali has unveiled a new constitution a week after coming into power. The document provides for a transitional committee of 26 members of the security forces and 15 civilians to take power. The new leaders also announced elections assuring that those who took part in the coup would be barred from participation. The date of the elections, however, has not been announced. Earlier, coup leader Captain Amadou Sanogo declared that he would not cling to power and would set up democratic elections as soon as the military manages to contain the Tuareg insurgency.
