The Belgian parliament on Friday gave the green light for the deployment of six Belgian Air Force F-16 fighter planes to the Middle East where they will take part in the campaign of the international coalition against ISIL. The six fighter jets have left for Greece at this afternoon and will proceed to Jordan tomorrow morning, according to local media reports.
From their base in Jordan the Belgian planes will carry out combat missions against the ISIL locations in Iraq.
As Belgium is currently without a federal government, parliament has to approve any new foreign military interventions. The caretaker government approved Belgium's participation in the international "coalition of the willing" on Wednesday.
A total of 114 MPs voted for the participation, two leftist MPs against, with 10 abstentions.
