The Palestinian detainees and Ex-detainees committee Sunday announced that a Palestinian prisoner serving two life sentences since the year 2003 has been hunger striking since November 25, 2015.
According to the committee, the prisoner Kifah Hattab started a hunger strike in an attempt to pressure Israel to treat him as a war prisoner.
Hattab refused to adhere to the prison’s regulations and procedures including wearing a uniform and standing in line for the daily head count. He demanded Israeli Prison Authorities to treat him as a war prisoner and in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.
The committee said Hattab is currently being held at the Afula Hospital to monitor his deteriorating health condition due to the long hunger strike.
Another two prisoners, Muhammad al-Qiq and Abdulla Abu Jaber has been hunger striking since November 11 and 8, respectively.
