Mark Hamill says Harrison Ford is doing well. The 62-year-old actor discussed his 72-year-old co-star's injury at the Guardians of the Galaxy premiere Thursday in London. Ford broke his leg on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII in June, but Hamill told the BBC the actor has improved.
"It was really terrible," he said of the accident. "But I hear he's doing really well. It will take more than that to stop Harrison Ford!"
Hamill and Ford co-starred in Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), and will reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in Episode VII alongside Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. Hamill told the news outlet their return "was certainly unexpected," but he considers the revival "fantastic."
"I already had a beginning, middle and end, I never thought we'd come back," he shared. "I thought even if they did a third trilogy, we wouldn't be involved, because it really is about the new generation of characters. We are just there to lend our support and grow contractually obligated beards."
Hamill said it is "just astonishing" to have "so many memories" evoked on set, and praised newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie.
"They are so talented," he lauded. "They are all so diverse. There are people I recognize like Andy Serkis, and new people that I've never seen before, like Daisy Ridley. But they are so good. I'm thinking of asking them for advice; I don't want to give any myself!"
Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled for release December 18, 2015.
