Muscat - Arabstoday
Two Emiratis were among six people swept away in swirling wadi waters in different parts of Oman on Thursday, following rains and thunderstorm, according to the Royal Oman Police. Army units, however, rescued seven other UAE nationals after they were stranded in flooded Tanaam Wadi in Ibri in Dhahirah region. A six-year old was among the six killed that included two Omanis, two Pakistanis and two Emirati nationals. The army and police rescue teams continued their search for two other Pakistani nationals swept away in the eastern region of the country. Royal Air Force of Oman helicopters airlifted three families stranded on the roofs of their house in Samad Al Shaan in the eastern region when water entered their houses. Helicopters also airlifted a sick woman from Rustaq as it was not possible to reach the hospital because of bad weather conditions. About ten people were caught in two different wadis in Sinaw. Two of the stranded were rescued while search for the rest continued. “Rescue operations involving police and local residents are on,” a spokesperson for the police said. The police were called in several other places to rescue people trapped in flooded wadis. The weather has turned sunny on Friday after heavy rains with a thunderstorm hit the country in the early hours of Thursday.
