Tulkarem governor says moving to Jenin

The governor of Tulkarem Talal Dweikat was appointed governor of Jenin replacing Qaddura Musa who died Wednesday of a heart attack, Dweikat said Saturday. President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree appointing him governor of Jenin after he served six years as governor of Tulkarem, Dweikat said. A new governor for Tulkarem is yet to be announced. The heart attack that killed Musa was brought on by a shooting attack on his house the previous evening, officials said earlier this week. Around 11.30 p.m. Tuesday, unknown assailants opened fire on Musa's home in Jenin, police spokesman Mujahid Rabiya said. The governor left his home with security chiefs to check-up on the security situation in the city, when he suffered the heart attack that killed him, a spokesman said. He died in the early hours of Wednesday in a Jenin public hospital, medics said. Secretary-General of the Presidency Tayyeb Abdul Rahim told Ma'an the gunmen were responsible for the governor's death. He stressed that Musa was shocked by the shooting, in particular as he oversaw plans to restore security control in the northern West Bank city. On April 15, a man was killed in shoot-out with Palestinian security forces in Jenin town Bir al-Basha and residents have since warned of a tense atmosphere in the area.
