The head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the United Nations joint mission in Syria, Sigrid Kaag, said here on Saturday that the Syrian chemical weapons will be taken out of the country to be destroyed on a ship out of Syria's territorial waters. During a press conference, Kaag said that parts of the chemical arsenal are going to be destroyed inside Syria, such as scuds and mixing facilities, adding that the chemical agents will be destroyed out of the country. "The chemical agent, the materials, will be destroyed out of the country and as I said in the beginning, it is confirmed that it will be on a ship at sea and it will be done with hydrolysis," she said. "All the packed and sealed chemical agents will arrive from different sites in the city of Latakia (on the Syrian coast), then it will be transported to other ships by other member states that will send it to, in principle, a U.S. vessel... it will not be in Syrian territorial water," she added.
