A salesperson has been fined OMR2000 for selling expired goods, the PACP announced on Wednesday.

A consumer reported the salesperson to the Public Authority for Consumer Protection after noting that expired goods were on sale.

The store is at a shopping center in Nizwa. After receiving the complaint, the Consumer Protection Department at the Governorate of Dakhiliyah immediately visited the shopping center to verify the reported violation.

After gathering evidence, the case was referred to Public Prosecution and the relevant court for prosecution. The Court of First Instance in Nizwa ruled that the salesperson be convicted of trading in corrupted commodities, violating the Consumer Protection law issued by Royal Decree No. (66/2014).

The individual must pay a fine of OMR2000, as well as legal expenses. They are also subjected to three months of imprisonment under a suspended sentence.

The General Authority for Consumer Protection calls on all merchants and suppliers to comply with the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations, to avoid any legal repercussions.
