
The Sudanese parliament during a procedural session held today elected by majority Dr. Al Fatih Izzedin as new speaker to succeed former speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, who resigned his post. The new Sudanese parliament speaker said in a statement today that the challenges facing the country require work to strengthen the social fabric, uphold the values of reconciliation and management of dialogue in order to reach comprehensive political consensus , revealing the determination of the Parliament to proceed with the establishment of a national unity based on Shura, participation and representation. He stressed that the supervisory and accountability role of the Parliament will be activated to work at full momentum in order to achieve the care needed for exploiting the state's resources. With regard to the course of foreign relations, the Speaker of the Sudanese parliament said they will see serious efforts to strengthen the bonds of diplomatic cooperation with neighboring countries, especially South Sudan and sisterly and friendly countries as well as the effective interaction with the international and regional organizations to achieve the objectives of joint action in order to realize stability. The parliament will continue to provide full support to the army in order to play its full role in securing the homeland and the citizen, Dr. Izzedin said. During the procedural session Dr. Eissa Bushra was elected as Deputy Speaker of the parliament while Samya Ahmed Mohamed retained her post as Parliament Deputy Speaker. Meanwhile the heads of parliamentary committees offered their resignations to pave the way for to the appointment of new ones.
