President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will attend a celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Parliament's Culture, media and antiquities committee MP Osma Heikal said on Monday.
Organized by the Parliament, the celebration will be in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el Sheikh on Sunday.
Besides delivering a speech, president Sisi will attend a dinner in honor of guests, lawmakers and dignitaries, Heikal said during a press briefing held today at the headquarter of the parliament.
Also, Sisi will attend a concert organized by Cairo Opera House.
As Egypt celebrates the 43rd anniversary of Oct. 6 War Victory, another celebration is underway to mark the 150th anniversary of starting its parliamentary life, Heikal said, adding that both anniversaries reflect the historical depth of the Egyptian state.
The Egyptian parliament was founded on October 22 in 1866 upon a decree by Khedive Ismail, he noted.
Being the first real parliament across the Arab world and Africa, the Egyptian House of Representatives is the fifth worldwide after the English, American, French and Greece ones, Heikal added.
Speaking about next Monday's celebration to mark the 150th anniversary of the parliament establishment, Heikal said that it will see 16 foreign parliament speakers, heads of international organizations along with delegations representing 14 other parliaments at the level of secretary generals and lawmakers.
The celebration will include speeches by Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal, Speaker of the Arab Parliament Ahmed al Jarwan, Pan African Parliament President Roger Nkodo Dang and Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary General Martin Chungong, MP Heikal noted.
He added that Sisi will attend the opening of the Arab and African parliaments' joint session, pointing out that Abdel Aal will inaugurate the session that will include speeches for al Jarwan, Dang and Chungong.
After concluding the inaugural session, the Arab Parliament will hold its two-day sessions, lawmaker Heikal stated.
He further noted that the Pan African Parliament will embark on convening its sessions, which will last for 10 days, after ending the joint session.
