
Baghdad Operation Command started to cut down 25 percent of security checkpoints and remove concrete blocks central Baghdad.
More placed concrete blocks will be removed from the capital later, said Head of Baghdad operation Maj. Gen. Galel al Rabiae.
Almost 20-30 percent of blocks and checkpoints will be removed from Al Rusafa - half of Baghdad - respectively, the commander said, adding that shrinking security presence has been mulled so as not to affect the security situation there.
Iraq's most populous city, Baghdad, has been classified by the UNAMI as having the highest number of violence and terrorism victims.
