Matrouh - MENA

Egyptian authorities decided Monday afternoon to reopen Salloum border crossing before Egyptians after it was closed Saturday over the abduction of Egyptian drivers, who were subsequently freed. Travel movement between Egypt and Libya will be returning to normal after a two-day hiatus, a border official said. Earlier Matrouh Security chief Maj-Gen El-Anani Hamouda said that the crossing has been closed before Egyptians on both ways "to protect them." About 95 Egyptian drivers were abducted and their trucks seized by armed men near Ajdabiya, Egypt said on Thursday night, adding that their abductors warned that they will continue to hold them until the release of 13 Libyan prisoners. Yesterday, Egypt's ambassador to Libya announced that the problem was over and that the hostages were released and on their way home.
