beirut - NNA

It is high-time for the state to decree a new parliamentary electoral law that observes proportionality while maintaining sectarian balance, according to Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi Saturday who addressed a visiting delegation of contractual Lebanese University professors. New parliamentary elections are scheduled for Spring of 2013, still pending a new electoral law that would cater for a diverse Lebanese society. A law based on proportional representation also aimed for the rise of national parties that kept sectarian influence on the country's politics in check. "Time is of essence for cabinet and House to decree such a law...which we want to be a true Spring of change and democracy in Lebanon." Safadi assured his visitors that his ministry was placing the final touches on a state budget project for 2012.
