Sharjah - Egypt Today

A slight fall in traffic casualties has been reported in Sharjah during the first half of the year, according to Sharjah Police.
As per records, the year witnessed 60 deaths compared to last year which reported 69 death cases in the first six months.
The achievement has been made as part of the Ministry of the Interior's strategy of ensuring road safety to reduce road death rates as part of the Government Acceleration Goals.
Maj. Gen. Mohammed Alai Al Naqbi, director of traffic and patrol department at Sharjah Police, said that an internal strategy developed by the department has brought the traffic accident rates down in the emirate. Besides, the department has increased awareness programmes among the residents, which contributed significantly to the decrease in the number of deaths.
Major Alai added that the most important step was the awareness campaigns launched specifically for the pedestrians crossing from non-designated areas. The awareness campaigns also focus on Malaiha and Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed roads, which have the highest rate of accidents. He urged motorists to abide by traffic rules and speeds limit on the internal and external roads.
