More than 1000 medical professionals engaged in pre-hospital, in-hospital or inter-hospital emergency medical care and disaster planning have come from around the globe to Dubai to attend the third Emirates Society of the Emergency Medicine Scientific Conference 2016, ESEM 2016, opened today by Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami Chairman of the Board of the Dubai Health Authority.
ESEM is supplemented by nine exclusive workshops for delegates related to radiological emergencies, wound management, neurovascular emergencies, as well as disaster preparedness for hospitals, trauma, basic emergency ultrasound course, dental emergency and others.
These scientific topics are being presented by more than 103 local and international experts and conference provides delegates with up to 26 CME (Continuing Medical Education) approved hours by the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
"Emergency medicine is a relatively very new specialty that has been around for less than sixty years. So, for a country that is celebrating its 45 years marking the unification of its seven emirates and the founding of the country, it gives me great pride to acknowledge that Dubai Health Authority today runs the region’s largest fully integrated Emergency Department across Emirates," Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami said while opening the three-day event.
There is a rising awareness on the importance of proper Emergency Medical Services and the goal is to give the community members the confidence in providing medically-approved and accepted health care attention and services whenever they may unexpectedly find themselves in a crisis, said Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine, which organised ESEM under the Patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, with support from leading government and private institutions including Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority, Emirates Medical Association and Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.
Al Qatami further commented in his inauguration speech that Dubai Health Authority is pushing and advocating its 2016-2021 strategy to have the highest priority in creating a healthy standard of living in Dubai that is consistent with the standards of modern lifestyle living in the city.
