The criminal court at the annexe of Salé’s appeals court in charge of terrorism affairs gave on Thursday sentences ranging between two and a half to 20 years in prison to nine suspects, including a French national, sued on charges of terrorism.

The main suspect accused had his jail time increased from 18 to 20 years, and three other defendants had their ten-year prison sentence confirmed. The sentence of a fifth accused was reduced from 8 to 7 years.

The nine were found guilty of possessing firearms, praising terrorist acts, and forming a criminal gang to prepare and perpetrate terrorist acts as part of a collective project to undermine public order.

The court also reduced from six to four years the prison sentence of Thomas Gallay, a French national who was arrested during an anti-terrorism raid in February 2016.

Gallay, an engineer of microprocessors, was found guilty of “financial support to anyone who commits terrorist acts, failure to report terrorist acts, holding public meetings without prior authorization and carrying out activities in a non-recognized association.”

Three other accused had their imprisonment terms reduced to three and two and a half years.
