Member of Parliament Mostafa Bakry
Aswan - Arab Today

Member of Parliament Mostafa Bakry on Wednesday asserted the necessity of activating article 236 of the Constitution on the right of indigenous residents to return to their original villages within 10 years.

At a press conference, he added that the move became a must in light of the crisis of Nubian residents who had organized a sit-in calling for returning to their own villages after they had been evacuated decades ago. The sit-in has just been ended.

He thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for approving the reactivation of the article.

Bakry noted that he will work, together with other MPs, for issuing a legislation activating the article to serve the best interests of the Nubian inhabitants.

It is high time that the Nubians would get their full historical rights to their own villages after 118 years and four evacuations.
