Cairo - Arabstoday

Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi didn't attend the military funeral after being advised not to for security reasons. The funeral of 16 borders guards killed during Sunday's deadly attack in North Sinai began in Nasr City officially at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldiers with thousands of mourners in attendance. The highest officials include the head of SCAF and Defence Minister Hussein Tantawy and Chief of Staff Sami Anan. According to an Al-Ahram reporter, despite the security guards, angry protesters chased Prime Minister Hisham Qandil down upon arrival at the funeral prayers and beat him. The angry protesters gathered outside the funeral prayers at Al-Rashdad Mosque held up their shoes in the air, chanted "You killed them, you dogs" and also chanted against the Muslim Brotherhood and President Morsi. Prime Minister Qandil was not able to attend the military funeral that followed the prayers. Leading Egyptian figures were present at the funeral including: Al-Azhar Grand Imam and former prime ministers Kamal El-Ganzouri and Essam Sharaf. From:Ahram
