Rabat - Arab Today

The Central Bureau for Judiciary Investigations (BCIJ) arrested on Friday suspects in the murder of Member of Parliament Abdellatif Merdass, who was fatally shot outside his home earlier this month.

The BCIJ, affiliated with the General Directorate for the Control of the National Territory, unveiled that an unnamed number of suspects in the March 7 murder of the MP were arrested

In a communiqué released the same day, the Central Bureau pointed out that security efforts enabled the identification and the arrest of the suspects of the criminal act as well as the seizure of the vehicle they used in the execution of the crime.

Investigations carried out in the houses of the suspects resulted in the confiscation of a hunting rifle and cartridges similar to those used in the assassination. These were referred to the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police for forensic testing.

The communiqué added that the arrest was the result of a collaboration between the Central Bureau for Judiciary Investigations and the National Division of Judicial Police and the Judicial Police forces in Casablanca.

According to the same source, the search procedures in this case required the collection of technical data, their analysis, as well as the acquisition of conclusive physical evidence through an analysis of materials taken from the crime scene.

The report also pointed out that the suspects have been taken into custody and are at the disposal of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecution.
