The Ministry of Interior has granted UAE citizenship to 97 children born to Emirati mothers on the occasion of the UAE's 45th National Day.
The citizenship documents were presented during a ceremony organised by the General Directorate of Naturalisation in Abu Dhabi. Citizenship was granted in line with a federal decree issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the ceremony, Brigadier Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi, Head of Naturalisation Department, handed over the family books and citizenship documents to the children of Emirati mothers.
"The initiative is not new to Sheikh Khalifa because of the special care he lends to issues concerning the welfare, security and stability of the nation and its citizens. The move will have a positive impact on the cycle of work and productivity," Al Rashidi said.
"This wise and humanitarian decision embodies our leadership’s continuous engagement with the concerns and problems of our citizens, and the measures taken to solve these problems quickly. It also reflects the special position of women within Emirati society," he affirmed.
Al Rashidi congratulated the 97 recipients and called upon them to become good and loyal citizens. He also encouraged them to be passionate about the country’s reputation and maintain its honour.
He indicated that these books and citizenship documents are symbols of allegiance and belonging to the nation and the leadership. "Receiving these documents today is an occasion to renew the pledge between the UAE’s children and the head of the Emirati family, as a whole," Al Rashidi said.
He urged them to reflect the country’s cultural values, abide by the Constitution, regulations and laws, and respect the prevailing Arabic customs, traditions and heritage, while valuing the tolerance prevailing in Emirati society.
Al Rashidi said that the awarding of the citizenship highlighted the vision of the country’s leadership and its participation in programmes to encourage stable families and ensure social unity. He added that it also makes a significant impact on the development of Emirati society, and provides these families with psychological comfort, as well as social security and stability.
The recipients expressed their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Sheikh Khalifa. They emphasised that they did not have adequate words to express their thanks to the UAE’s leader and overwhelming joy on the occasion, which marks a turning point in both their professional and social lives.
