Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development marks #UAE_Commemoration_Day
Abu dhabi - Arab Today

A moment of silence was observed today on the occasion of #UAE_Commemoration_Day, to honour the great sacrifices of the nation's martyrs to ensure the future stability and safety of the UAE and the Arab region, at the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development.

The event was organised in cooperation with the National Media Council under the patronage and in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.

Events began with the symbolic lowering of the national flag at 8 a.m., and then at 11.30 a.m., one minute's silence was observed and a prayer for the martyrs was offered in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Afra Al Sabri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Salem Al Amri, Deputy Director-General of the National Media Council, NMC, Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, Executive Director of Emirates News Agency and all heads and employees of the Ministry and the NMC. This was followed by the hoisting of the national flag of the UAE.

On the occasion, Sheikh Nahyan said that our commitment on this day to celebrate Commemoration Day follows the directives of the wise leadership represented by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to honour the sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes, and also showing the respect and appreciation that His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has for the families of these national heroes.

"What we witness today reflects our unity behind our leadership, representing a model of loyalty and sacrifice, and adhering to the noble values instilled in the hearts of all citizens by the founding leader, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan," Sheikh Nahyan added.

He said that the leadership's keenness on setting 30th November as the commemoration date each year comes in recognition of the great sacrifices made by the martyrs. It will also enable the country’s people to show their respect and gratitude to those members of the UAE society who died to ensure the safety and security of the nation. It is also an opportunity for the nation’s diverse communities to show their support and stand with the country’s leadership in its efforts to provide a safe, secure and tolerant environment for all.

Sheikh Nahyan added that this is the chance for those who were blessed with the acquaintance of any of the martyrs to talk about them, their characters, attributes and words, introducing their words and good traits to others who have been deprived of their knowledge, or to future generations who might not know that on this earth, some of the best people lived.

The Minister of Culture dedicated his gratitude to the souls of the martyrs and their families who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their country, to ensure the future stability and safety of the UAE and the Arab region.

The Minister called on all segments of the community to participate in the activities of Commemoration Day in the ministry’s centres all over the state, including the one minute's silence, saying prayers for the souls of the martyrs, and participating in raising the flag of the State.
