The Hague - Arabstoday
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has called on the world community to support Arab efforts for making the Middle East and the Arab Gulf region free from mass-destruction weapons, a move necessary for enhancing opportunities for the prevalence of security, peace and stability at regional and international levels. In a speech on Wednesday at the 16th conference for the Parties of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague, Saudi Ambassador to Netherlands Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Shaghrood, who is also Kingdom’s permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, underscored the importance of implementing the ban on chemical weapons. “Kingdom’s policy aims at dismantling all kinds of mass-destruction weapons under strict and firm control of the world community,” Al-Shagrood said. The ambassador pointed out to an earlier signing of an agreement for the establishment of an international center for the combat of terrorism on the basis of a proposal by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. The agreement was presented at the International Conference for the Fight Against Terrorism, hosted by the Kingdom in February 2005. Al-Shaghrood, who leads Kingdom's delegation to the conference, called for the destruction of the remnants of chemical weapons in all countries the Saudi Press Agency reported.
