Amman - QNA

King Abdullah II of Jordan said the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz’s call for an Extraordinary Islamic Solidarity Summit is a response to the developments and challenges in the Middle East, which require coordination and integration of efforts so as to boost Islamic solidarity and find solutions to issues facing the Muslim nation. The timing of the summit indicates the wisdom and sagacity of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and all the respect his leadership enjoys in the Arab and Islamic world, Petra news agency quoted him as saying. As for the situation in Syria, King Abdullah II said “I have repeatedly expressed concern over of the continued deteriorating situation in Syria, and today we have to work immediately and earnestly to find a political solution to the deepening crisis in Syria”. He added “It must be remembered that we in Jordan, in fact are the most to be affected by what is happening in Syria at the economic and security levels, where the number of refugees who have fled the violence in their country is nearly150,000″. “Therefore, our fundamentals are that any solution in Syria must be based on the importance of maintaining the unity of the Syrian people, land, civil and regional security. Hence, we call on to stand by the Syrian people and intensify relief efforts and other humanitarian initiatives”. As for the latest developments in the Islamic world, especially the future of the Palestinian issue, the King stressed that Jordan’s position is consistent and firm in this regard, considering the Palestinian conflict as the core issue of instability in the Middle East. He stressed that the only way to end the tension and instability afflicting the region is to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict based on a two-state solution which guarantees the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders and Jerusalem as its capital and in line with international resolutions and legitimacy and other agreed frameworks, including the Arab Peace Initiative.
