Amman - XINHUA

Jordan's Independent Electoral Commission said Tuesday the country's parliamentary elections will be held on Jan. 23 next year, the state-run Petra news agency reported. Meanwhile, the commission said the candidate registration process will start on Dec. 22 and will run for three days. On Oct. 4, King Abdullah II of Jordan dissolved the lower house of parliament and called for preparations to hold early elections. About 2.278 million Jordanian people out of 3 million eligible voters have registered for the elections, according to official figures. Jordan's largest opposition party the Islamic Action Front has said it will boycott the elections.
