House of Representatives
Cairo - Arab Today

A number of clerics and lawmakers have stressed during a meeting of the religious committee of the House of Representatives the importance of filtering the religious discourse to face terrorism and affirmed that Islam renounces all forms of violence.

The participants of the meeting, topped by Minister of Awqaf Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, Mufti of the republic Shawki Allam and Coptic Orthodox Bishops Anbas Bola and Ermia, observed a minute of silence to mourn Egypt's martyrs who fell in recent terrorist attacks.

Head of the house religious committee Osama el Abd said today's meeting is the start of renewing religious discourse to deal with terrorism that struck Muslims and Christians alike.

El Abd described Egypt's Christians as an inseparable part of the country's national fabric.

For his part, deputy speaker of the house El Sayyed El Sherif assered that Islam rejects all kinds of violence and all divine religions have nothing to do with extremism and terrorism Egypt recently witnessed.
