Gunmen attempt to attack train in Egypt

A group of masked gunmen forced a train to stop north of the Egyptian capital of Cairo but ran away before carrying out any attack upon the arrival of security forces, official news agency MENA reported. "The train was moving from Gharbiya's Tanta city to Cairo when the gunmen forced the driver to stop and threatened to blow up the train if he moved," MENA quoted a security source as saying. The passengers went into a state of panic until security forces arrived and the gunmen ran away, according to the report. "Security forces cordoned off the train and bomb-disposal experts are currently checking the carriages," the source added. The incident comes as tens of thousands of Egyptians staged nationwide pro-military celebrations to mark the third anniversary of Jan. 25 uprising that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak in 2011. Earlier Saturday, two blasts targeted two police premises in Cairo and Suez governorate, killing a little child and injuring nine people. Also, at least 29 people were killed and 167 others injured on Saturday during clashes between supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and security forces in different parts of the country, a health ministry statement said. On Friday, a string of explosions rocked Cairo, killing six people and wounding about 100 others, while some 15 people were killed in clashes between security forces and pro-Morsi protesters nationwide.
