Amman - Petra
Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh on Thursday stressed the government’s commitment to maintain contact and consultations with the legislative authority. During a visit to the Upper House of Parliament, Tarawneh briefed senators on the economic situation and the steps taken to achieve an economic recovery. He also highlighted the government’s vision towards political reform, saying parliamentary elections would be conducted in accordance with His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives. Tarawneh renewed his call on all Jordanians to participate in the elections, calling participation a national duty. He said his government had continuously called for dialogue, and expressed surprise at the position of political groups who had “rejected” these calls. With regard to Syria, he reasserted Jordan’s position in favour of a political solution as soon as possible, and for stopping the bloodshed there. The premier said Jordan was ready to safeguard its interests and security in all possible situations. Senate President Taher Masri assured the premier that the Senate would maintain cooperation and consultations with the government, and would shoulder its responsibility in the process of reform and development. During the meeting, Tarawneh listened to senators’ views on several local and regional issues.
