Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday led the participating UAE delegation to the fourth joint Arab-European Foreign Ministers meeting at the Arab League's Secretariat General in Cairo.

The delegation included Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, the UAE Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States; Dr. Abdul Rahim Yousef Al Awadi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs, and other officials.

At the meeting, the Arab side was led by Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Khamis Al-Aghinawa and the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Abul-Gheit. The European side was headed by Federica Mogherini, the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The Arab and European foreign ministers or those representing them also attended the meeting.

In his speech during the opening session, the Tunisian minister stressed the importance of the Arab-European dialogue to address the challenges faced by all. He further stressed the importance of redoubling efforts and co-operation in light of the crucial regional developments. The minister also praised the proposal for organising a regular Arab-European summit.

In her speech, Mogherini spoke about the developments in Syria, Libya and Yemen, and their direct impact on the European countries, which validate the importance of the EU’s role as a main partner to preserve security in the Arab world.

She stressed the importance of ending wars in Yemen and Syria, and also called for rallying efforts and uniting to reach a solution to the conflict in Palestine.

The ministers focussed on topics related to migration, combating terrorism, humanitarian aid, disarmament, transitional crime, early warning and responding to crises.
