Cairo - KUNA

The first day of a two-day public referendum for Egypt's draft constitution came to an end, as polling stations nationwide were closed exactly at 9:00 p.m. local time as scheduled. Ballot boxes were sealed with code locks and kept at polling stations until tomorrow which is the second and final day for the vote, election watchdog member Medhat Edris was quoted by Egypt's official news agency (MENA) as saying. The doors and windows of all polling stations were closed with sealing wax, he added. There are nearly three million eligible voters distributed among over 30, 000 polling centers. The referendum is the sixth nationwide vote since Hosni Mubarak stepped down in a popular uprising in 2011.
