The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has distributed 2,000 relief and food parcels in the Al-Shamaytayn district of Taiz governorate in Yemen. The Emirate Red Crescent support comes within the framework of its relief aid and humanitarian projects in Yemen.
The United Arab Emirates is working as part of the Arab coalition countries to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni peoples and mitigate the impact of events, as the people of Yemen are facing numerous humanitarian challenges.
Al-Shamaytayn district is located south of Taiz, and is considered as one of the largest directorates of Yemen, with a population of about 206,239 people in an area of 608.7 sq km.
By the end of 2015, the number of families displaced to the directorate reached about 48,442 out of a total of 324,602 inhabitants, and the number of displaced people continues to rise due to the continuing blockade of Taiz.
The coup militia in Yemen have again refused to lift the siege imposed on the city of Taiz which has lasted for months, despite promises to open the western passageway leading to the province of Hodeidah
