Emergency security test at Luxor airport delayed due to EgyptAir flight hijacking

Egypt's civil aviation authorities delayed a wide-scale expanded emergency security test, slated for Tuesday, at the Luxor International Airport.

The decision was taken after a phone call between Civil Aviation Minister Sherif Fathy and Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company Adel Mahgoub, who was paying an inspection tour to the airport to follow up the test.

Earlier in the day, the EgyptAir Airbus A320, originally traveling from Alexandra's Borg El Arab Airport to Cairo, was hijacked and forced to land in Larnaca, Cyprus.

Mahgoub was forced to leave Luxor immediately, so Tuesday's test was delayed. 

The test was aiming at testing security and civil protection bodies' level of performance and
plans developed to face any possible emergency and rescue processes at the airport.

Meanwhile, Luxor airport was placed on high alert after the incident.

The hijacked Egyptian plane situation is over now and its hijacker was arrested.
