Dar Al Ber Society, DABS, has paid tribute to the new ‘Emirates Food Bank’ initiative launched by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Khalfan Khalifa Al Mazrouie, Chairman of DABS, said that the UAE has become a leading 'wellspring' with no end to its charity activities and programmes that target all deprived and crises-hit areas and peoples across the globe, regardless of their religion, culture, language, colour, and ethnic background.
"The 37-year-old society highly appreciates the new initiative, and Dar Al Ber is fully geared up and pledges to chip in and support the promising scheme through a variety of programmes and projects for the benefit of the Emirates Food Bank."
Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, Executive Director of BABS, said that Dar Al Ber will maximise its human, spiritual, and financial efforts to observe and fully implement the exemplary vision of the UAE's prudent leadership.
"The timely drive will help ease the suffering of so many peoples who do not have enough food or food supply due to the world's fights, crises, and natural disasters."
Earlier, Dar Al Ber had re-affirmed that the UAE, with a continual list of philanthropic works worldwide, keeps on boosting its position on the map of charitable and humanitarian work in the region, saying, "The UAE will always remain the homeland of goodness and the ceaseless spring of humanity under the prudent leadership, with the help of a kind-hearted people, and based on deeply-rooted heritage, civilisation, customs and traditions, and kind gestures."
His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the Emirates Food Bank this week as an integrated humanitarian foundation that aims to inculcate the values of generosity and ensure food supply for the people of the UAE for generations to come.
The move comes on the anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad’s accession as Ruler of Dubai, on which His Highness has asked the concerned authorities not to undertake any special events in Dubai, but to rather focus on launching charity initiatives.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, in a series of tweets on his official twitter account, said, "Today we launched the Emirates Food Bank as part of the Year of Giving, which aims to instill benevolence in the hearts of our people."
The Food Bank will collaborate with volunteers, as well as hotels, restaurants, farms and supermarkets, to distribute food and reduce waste, he added. "The food bank will collect surplus fresh and canned food in hotels, food factories, farms, hospitality foundations, and giant supermarkets so as to distribute it among the needy both inside and outside the county in cooperation with local and international humanitarian and charitable organisations."
The Food Bank will also open its doors to all volunteers willing to help it distribute the food in and out of the country, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad explained.
"The Year of Giving is a golden opportunity to unlock the humanitarian potentials and charitable innovations of Emirati people and the foundations. Our key responsibility is to begin the Year of Giving by an initiative that has something to do with the most important human needs such as food and by strengthening the value of generosity in the UAE people."
