Bahrain ministry worries over children participation

Bahrain's Human Rights and Social Development Ministry on Tuesday expressed concerns over the increased participation of children and youth in violent protests and urged the intervention of authorities and parents. The children and youth are "in proximity to, or participating in violent and illegal acts such as hurling improvised incendiary devices such as Molotov cocktails (homemade bombs), burning tyres, spilling and burning oil on the streets," the ministry said in a video footage. "Certain groups" were engaging young people to participate in illegal rallies which risk their lives, said the ministry. "We call upon leaders and parents to safeguard the well being and future of the children and youth, by inculcating in them an awareness of peaceful methods of upholding their rights to speech and assembly." The Ministry also urged the public to contact them by hotline or e-mail if they see any violations take place. The advisory came after the death of a 16-year-old on Saturday, who suffered severe burns in a attack by some vandals with incendiary devices on a police station in Sitra.
