Azhar: Constitution does not violate Sharia

Al Azhar has once again said that the draft constitution does not violate the Sharia (Islamic law), urging the Egyptian people to participate in the referendum on the constitution, slated for Tuesday and Wednesday. In a statement following a meeting of the Association of Senior Scholars on Saturday, Al Azhar called on the Egyptians not to heed fatwas (religious opinions) which prohibit voting in the constitutional referendum. The statement said Al Azhar had taken part in the committee tasked with outlining the draft constitution.
