Aoun to Arabiya: Taef essential, should be implemented

President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, stressed that "Taef Accord is necessary," noting that "there are some articles that have not been implemented. We seek to implement all its articles and at the top the electoral law that preserves coexistence and provides fair representation to all the Lebanese segments".

Aoun said that "the forthcoming parliamentary polls will be held on the basis of a new election law," adding "the proportionality law provides the representation of all the citizens".

Aoun confirmed that the Syrian file could be resolved through politics, pointing out that "the political solution could be achieved through a settlement".

He stressed that the misunderstanding with some Gulf countries has been cleared out, indicating that a new chapter was opened with the old one folded.

President Aoun's words came in an interview to Arabiya TV.
