Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit underlined the importance of adopting a strong Arab stance in the disarmament and non-proliferation domains.

Addressing the first meeting of the Arab Elders Committee on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, Abul Gheit underlined the importance of the recommendations the committee will present to phrase a unified Arab stance against armament and non-proliferation issues.

The committee, formed at a request by Abul Gheit, groups high-level Arab figures concerned with this kind of issues and is led by Prince Turki al Faysal.

Faysal expressed appreciation for Abul Gheit's initiative that aims at considering Arab interests in light of the rapid changes and transitions that have been taking place in the Middle East for years now.
