Cairo - XINHUA

Two people were killed and 20 others injured Friday in clashes across Egypt between supporters and opponents of toppled president Mohamed Morsi following their protests, official news agency MENA reported. The victims included a 12-year-old boy killed in Giza and 20 people injured in the governorate as well as Sharqiyah and Beheira, according to MENA. Security forces dispersed the clashes in Giza's Omraniya district where protesters blocked the roads with ignited tires. In the canal city of Suez, supporters of Morsi clashed with his opponents and security forces, which led to the injuring of at least four people, including one in critical condition, according to state-run Al-Ahram website. Protests also took place in other governorates including Cairo, Alexandria after Muslims' Friday noon prayer, some ended in clashes. In the northern coastal city of Alexandria, Morsi's supporters protested in the district where the ex-president is reportedly detained and in Sidi Bishr district. Security forces dispersed the crowd and arrested 12 protesters in the two districts, MENA quoted the statement of Interior Ministry as saying. Elsewhere, three people were injured in Sharqiya and one was injured in Beheira, said Ahmed Al-Ansary in a statement. Police arrested in total 19 Muslim Brotherhood members in Friday's clashes, MENA quoted an statement of the Interior Ministry as saying. The pro-Morsi National Coalition to Support Legitimacy called for demonstrations on Friday under the name of "Egypt's women are a red line," referring to the recent arrests of women protesting in support of the deposed president. The trial of Morsi over the charges of killing protesters during his one-year rule began on Monday, but the judge only pronounced it to be postponed to Jan. 8 next year. Security sources were quoted by MENA as saying that Morsi was then transferred to the Borg el-Arab Prison in Alexandria.
