London - Arabstoday

Great Britain forward Scott Sinclair has expressed his delight at the atmosphere so far during the London 2012 Olympics, and following his goal-scoring cameo in Sunday's win over the United Arab Emirates, is setting his sights on their crunch game with Uruguay. The Swansea City forward came off the bench to score the crucial second goal in Team GB’s 3-1 win and professed to being delighted at the response to the team playing on behalf of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland inside Wembley Stadium. “It was a great atmosphere, I think it’s amazing with all the nations behind us and supporting us. It’s been great for us and if we can keep going, move forward and go through to the next round it will be fantastic for everyone we are representing.” The side travel to Wales on Tuesday to face Uruguay, needing a point to progress from the group, but the Swansea City star acknowledges that he personally may find those at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium harder to please. “I’m hoping for a nice reception, even from the Cardiff fans! Hopefully the Cardiff and Swansea fans will just support us all. “The main thing is to get through to the next round, it would be nice to finish on top but if we don’t finish on top and we still get through which is still great news.” Sinclair, who scored with his first touch of the night, was impressed with a UAE side who certainly gave the tournament hosts a scare. “They look strong, they brought it back to 1-1 and it was a tight game – they are a difficult side to play against. However, our confidence began to come through and when we got our second goal I thought we could of got a couple more, and obviously [Daniel Sturridge] produced a great finish as well. “[Stuart Pearce] spoke to me before the game and said ‘when you get your chance go make an impact’, so when I came on hopefully I did that.” The wide-man was also quick to praise the efforts of Craig Bellamy, who set up his goal, as well as fellow elder statesman Ryan Giggs. “The work-rate Bellamy puts in is exceptional, as well as his assist, while Giggsy is a legend in the game so it’s nice to be playing alongside these guys. “I think this is a positive experience for most of the boys. We don’t really get a chance to play with the Welsh boys as well. We haven’t really been together that long, just a few weeks, but as each game comes I think we are getting better and fitter.” He also confessed that off the pitch he has been enjoying the Olympic experience, and the change from the norm it has provided him, rubbing shoulders with the likes of NBA superstar LeBron James and some of the world’s top performers in their fields. “I went to the opening ceremony, it was absolutely amazing. It’s just a completely different atmosphere around compared to your clubs. You are mixing with other athletes, people who are competing in different events but all with the same vision of getting the gold.”   FIFA
