London - Arabstoday
Brendan Rodgers described Liverpool’s 5-2 victory at Norwich City, their first in the Premier League since his appointment as manager, as a “special day for the team”. The Northern Irishman also reserved particular praise for Reds forward Luis Suarez, who struck a sumptuous hat-trick at Carrow Road, just as he did against the Canaries during the previous campaign. On-loan midfielder Nuri Sahin and captain Steven Gerrard were also on target as Rodgers’ side finally translated impressive performances into goals, following a run of five league games without a win. "Obviously I'm very content," the 39-year-old told his club’s website. “I'm not surprised because our performance level up to today has been very, very good apart from one game against Arsenal, and when we went down to ten men away at West Brom. "I've got to say, the quality of our game and play was outstanding. I know Norwich are a wonderful club and over the past few years it's been a real difficult place to come. To arrive here and score five goals, and play like we did, was outstanding." On his 50th top-flight appearance in England, Uruguay star Suarez produced a finishing performance which the Reds had been sorely lacking during their Premier League campaign to date. 'Incredible' Suarez Having bagged a hat-trick on his last visit to Carrow Road, in April this year, the 25-year-old repeated the feat, leaving his manager purring at his determination, spirit and ingenuity. "I remember his game last year and his goals were incredible. I've got to say, this was another masterclass in finishing," Rodgers said of Suarez, who has now scored 27 times in 60 appearances for the Anfield side. "His first goal was terrific. We built it from behind and played through the lines. There was a nice combination on the edge of the box and he finished it well. "His second one typifies him because ten seconds earlier he missed probably his easiest chance. He doesn't get disappointed and immediately he gets back onto the ball and with an incredible piece of skill, he nutmegs the defender and finishes with the outside of his foot. "It was a special day for him and, more importantly, a special day for the team. I thought the performance and how we got between the lines, and played and passed, and had relentless possession was pleasing." FIFA
