Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah said Thursday the country is poised for major progress in sports in the coming period thanks to the government backing.
The Cabinet has approved a plan, devised by the Public Authority for Youth and Sport (PAYS), to promote the various types of sports, he told reporters after attending a meeting by the parliamentary committee on youth and sports.
"The committee meeting discussed this plan which includes executive steps for sport promotion," Sheikh Salman said, noting that Cabinet members and MPs are "unanimous" in supporting this plan.
"The plan sets the agenda of participation in overseas sports activities, the rules of the outsourcing of professional players, and the activation of internationally-recognized regulations," he revealed.
The PAYS and the Ministry of Education are working together for promoting the technical and administrative aspects at all sports facilities countrywide and providing the necessary incentives for talented sportspeople, Sheikh Salman went on.
Regarding Kuwait Football Association (KFA), he affirmed the government resolve to enforce law on all sports bodies and provide the financial and technical backing to the KFA in collaboration with the PAYS.
"Soon after the issuance of Act No. 117 for 2014, PAYS laid the regulation for the launching of sports clubs and bodies, and the election of clubs' board members.
"The new law was meant to fix the loopholes in Act No. 26 for 2012, facilitate holding the general assemblies of the clubs and ensure the state supervision over the financial affairs of clubs," he added.
Dealing with the plan to privatize sports clubs, he said the cabinet approved a request by PAYS for three-month span of time for further debate of the issue.
