Istanbul is the "front-runner" to host the semi-final and final games of Euro 2020, according to English Football Association (FA). Wembley Stadium in London and Millennium Stadium in Wales are seen as possible hosts but Football Association Secretary General Alex Horne believes Turkish city of Istanbul is the front-runner. "We've taken some soundings," FA General Secretary Alex Horne said, "There's a sympathy for Turkey and it feels like they are the front-runners." Thirty-two countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Ukraine have expressed an interest in hosting 2020 games. Thirteen host cities wil be chosen on September 25, 2014 but only one bidder will be awarded the three showpiece matches at the conclusion. UEFA President Michel Platini had also previously said he would back Turkey for Euro 2020 if Istanbul missed out on the Olympics of 2020. Earlier this month, Istanbul together with Madrid had been voted out off the competition to host 2020 Olympic Games when Tokyo won the bid to host the biggest sports event on the planet.
